The Chance of Survival
In the race for survival after a heart attack, every second counts. The difference between life and death in the vast majority of cases can be measured by the time it takes to administer on-the-spot help to the casualty.

Hurstpierpoint Community First Responders will, when available, supply the rapid response that is so vital to survival. The First Responders will bridge the gap between the onset of the heart attack and the arrival of theSouth East Coast Ambulance Service. Once an Ambulance Paramedic is despatched, a call will also be placed to activate the local First Responder who will often be first on scene to deliver vital early life saving skills.
85% of victims have the potential to survive.
The chance of survival is decreased by 10% for every minute that emergency treatment is delayed

When you dial 999 for an Ambulance in the Hurstpierpoint and surrounding area, the South East Coast Ambulance Service will activate a First Responder (if appropriate) to bridge the gap before the Ambulance arrives. We will respond to calls for emergency help relating to specific types of emergencies, there is a set of guidelines laid down by the Ambulance Service of the type of calls we can attend, e.g. chest pains or suspected heart attacks, choking, collapse, diabetics see our list on the home page
